Special Days for Couples and Families
We’re often asked by guests looking for something a little different: what’s the perfect day out beyond our bike and hiking tours? Whether you’re travelling as a couple seeking a scenic escape or a family wanting a memorable adventure, the west of Ireland has so much to offer beyond Connemara.
One of our favourite alternative days combines dramatic landscapes, rich history, great food, and a touch of indulgence—taking you through the limestone beauty of the Burren to the iconic Cliffs of Moher, with plenty of stops along the way.

1. A Scenic Drive Through the The Burren
Your journey begins with a drive through the otherworldly landscape of the Burren, one of Ireland’s most unique regions. Known for its vast limestone pavements, rare wildflowers, and ancient history, this area feels almost like stepping onto another planet.
Along the way, there are countless opportunities to stop and explore. Highlights include:
- Ancient megalithic tombs like Poulnabrone Dolmen
- Early Christian sites such as Kilfenora Cathedral
- Sweeping viewpoints offering panoramic vistas across Galway Bay
This part of the journey is slow, immersive, and perfect for curious travellers who enjoy storytelling, history, and stunning natural scenery.

2. Discover the Iconic Cliffs of Moher
No trip along this route would be complete without visiting the world-famous Cliffs of Moher. Rising over 200 metres above the Atlantic Ocean, these cliffs offer breathtaking views that stretch as far as the Aran Islands on a clear day.
Take your time here—walk along the cliff paths, feel the Atlantic breeze, and soak in one of Ireland’s most awe-inspiring natural landmarks. For couples, it’s a romantic highlight; for families, it’s an unforgettable moment of discovery.

3. Lunch in the Coastal Village of Doolin
After a morning of exploration, head to the charming village of Doolin, known for its traditional Irish music and warm hospitality.
This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a hearty lunch. Whether it’s fresh seafood chowder, homemade brown bread, or classic fish and chips, Doolin offers a welcoming break before the next leg of your journey.
If you’re lucky, you might even catch a live trad session—adding a little extra magic to your day.
4. The Atlantic Ocean Drive Return
The return journey is just as memorable, following a scenic coastal route along the Wild Atlantic Way. This stretch offers dramatic ocean views, quiet beaches, and hidden gems that many visitors miss.
It’s a chance to slow down, stop for photos, and truly take in the rugged beauty of Ireland’s west coast.
5. A Sweet Stop at Hazel Mountain Chocolate
One of our favourite stops on the way back is the Hazel Mountain Chocolate factory—an absolute treat for both adults and kids.
Here, you can:
- Taste handcrafted bean-to-bar chocolate
- Enjoy a rich hot chocolate or coffee
- Pick up unique gifts to take home
It’s the perfect way to end the day on a high note, adding a little indulgence to your adventure.
